The Petty family has been involved with racing since 1953 when Jack Petty, Jeremy’s Grandfather, began staking claim to the Petty name in racing history books, by taking 8 Championships and winning over 300 races. Jack has been inducted to the Wichita Racing Hall of Fame at 81 Speedway and also the Kansas Auto Racing Museum.
Joe Petty, Jeremy’s father, followed in his father’s footsteps with his own illustrious career. In the 70s and 80s Joe won 3 Championships and racked up over 40 victories before retiring to raise his family.
Jeremy’s competitive nature and God-gifted athletic ability has enabled him to excel in many sporting ventures throughout his life. The true heart of a racing champion, and need for speed was evident, as early as age 10, starting with becoming the Colorado State Champion Soap Box Derby driver. Jeremy’s talents in racing led him to multiple different forms of racing cars including: go Karts, vintage race cars, IMCA type Modifieds, and now he has moved into the upper leagues of stock car racing.
Jeremy started his racing career on dirt tracks of Kansas and Oklahoma in 2001. The 2002 racing season started with Jeremy racing on dirt at Salina, Wichita, and Mayetta. Jeremy and his team decided to race on asphalt at Dodge City Raceway Park where he took his first “A” Feature win in just his ninth career race, and only his second race on asphalt.
In 2003 Jeremy concentrated his racing efforts to asphalt at Dodge City Raceway Park, where he finished 3rd in points and was also rookie of the year in the modified division. Jeremy capped off his “Rookie of the Year” title by capturing the final feature win of the season. This sparked an unbelievable streak of unprecedented wins; including 17 straight feature wins on the asphalt (at Dodge City Raceway Park, J.R.P. Speedway in Tulsa, OK, and I-70 speedway in Odessa, MO.) The spectacular season of 2004 ended with Jeremy winning the overall points championship at J.R.P. speedway in Tulsa, OK, and the Missouri Cup!
Jeremy resides in his hometown of Smolan, Kansas, where his parents Joe and Marilyn still live. Jeremy, despite being an unbelievably gifted race car driver, has a number of different sporting interests and hobbies. In fact, Jeremy attended Brown Mackie College in Salina, Kansas where he was awarded a scholarship to play baseball. He pitched for the Brown Mackie Lions and received a degree in business management in 2003.
